Emergency Response Teams Will Join Industry To Test The Pueblo of Acoma's Hazardous Chemical Response Plans

Denton, TX, July 27, 2001 -- Is the Pueblo of Acoma ready for a chemical spill? We are about to find out. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Pueblo of Acoma, the State of New Mexico and Cibola County are preparing for a hazardous material incident exercise.
Local officials have spent months refining and developing the community's emergency response procedures. Fire, law enforcement, medical staff and local industries will jointly test the local emergency management plan in a four-hour exercise on July 28, 2001 at 8:00 a.m. The FEMA Region VI will direct the evaluation of the Pueblo of Acoma emergency response plans for responding to a hazardous materials incident.
The exercise players are from tribal, city, county, and state governments and from private business, volunteer organizations, and FEMA. They include fire, law enforcement, medical staff, and local industries.
Peer evaluators will evaluate the players' activities. The American Red Cross will provide victims and evacuees. The public is welcome to observe the exercise at the Pueblo of Acoma in north overflow parking area of the Sky City Hotel and Conference Center.
