Xenia, OH -- The Xenia Disaster Recovery Center will close Tuesday, October 17. Operating hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 14 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday of next week.

While the temporary center, on the second floor of the Juvenile Court Building at 61 Greene Street, will close, applicants for federal and state assistance can still contact the FEMA toll-free number to apply. Greene County applicants have through November 27 to apply for assistance at 800-462-9029 (TTY 800-462-7585 for those with a hearing or speech impairment). Both lines will be operational from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the application deadline.

"We have started to see a significant reduction in the number of application calls and visits to the center," said Federal Coordinating Officer Lou Botta, of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). "This is usually an indicator that victims are receiving the assistance and information that they need."

Once residents have applied for assistance, they are given a toll-free Helpline number to check on the status of their application, update information, provide referral numbers for specific programs, or answer any questions they may have about disaster assistance.

The Helpline number is 800-525-0321 or TTY 800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing impaired. This number is available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and multi-lingual operators are available to take your call.

"If you still have disaster assistance questions, we hope that you will take advantage of the free services available at the Disaster Recovery Center," Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA) State Coordinating Officer Dale Shipley said.
