WICHITA, Kan. -- The Kiowa County Disaster Recovery Center located at the Greensburg Courthouse in Greensburg will close Saturday, August 18, at 6 p.m. This is the last DRC to close of the 24 opened statewide for this disaster.

The Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration opened the DRCs to provide face-to-face assistance and disaster information to those individuals and business owners affected by the severe storms, tornados and flooding from May 4 to June 1.

The Kiowa County DRC has assisted more than 1,334 Kiowa County residents since opening May 8.

The FEMA Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, CDT. The TTY number for residents with special speech or hearing needs is TTY 1-800-462-7585.  Information is also available online at www.fema.gov.

Applicants can use the FEMA Helpline to check the status of their assistance application, change their application information, inquire about additional assistance, or discuss their right to appeal FEMA decisions.

FEMA's temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses. SBA assistance is available by calling 1-800-659-2955 or online www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
