WACO, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) closed the incident period for damages incurred during recent storms, tornadoes and flooding across Texas at midnight Friday, August 3, 2007. Residents who suffered damages between June 16 and August 3, 2007 are eligible to apply for disaster assistance, according to officials with FEMA and the Governor's Division of Emergency Management (GDEM).

"We continue to help individuals affected by Texas floods," said Joan Haun, state coordinating officer for the Governor's Division of Emergency Management. "If you have not applied for disaster assistance and you incurred damages, register for assistance."

"The unprecedented rains that have soaked Texas for more than a month have caused damage all across the state. If individuals suffered damages to their homes or business at any point between June 16 and August 3, we strongly encourage them to register with FEMA," Kenneth Clark, FEMA federal coordinating officer, said. "Thus far more than 7,900 Texans have registered for assistance."

Currently, FEMA's Individual Assistance programs are available to residents in 33 Texas counties: Archer, Bee, Bell, Brown, Burnet, Cherokee, Comanche, Cooke, Coryell, Denton, Eastland, Grayson, Guadalupe, Hamilton, Henderson, Hood, Lampasas, Llano, Medina, Nueces, Parker, Runnels, Smith, Starr, Tarrant, Travis, Van Zandt, Victoria, Walker, Webb, Wichita, Williamson and Zavala.

Public Assistance to help restore infrastructure for local governments is now available in 50 Texas counties: Anderson, Archer, Baylor, Bee, Bosque, Brown, Burnet, Callahan, Cherokee, Coleman, Collin, Comanche, Cooke, Coryell, Denton, Eastland, Erath, Fannin, Grayson, Hamilton, Hill, Hunt, Jones, Kaufman, Lamar, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, Medina, Menard, Mills, Montague, Navarro, Parker, Runnels, San Saba, Smith, Starr, Stephens, Tarrant, Throckmorton, Van Zandt, Victoria, Walker, Webb, Wichita, Wilbarger, Williamson and Wise.

Individuals and families affected by recent flooding can register for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by going online to www.fema.gov. Individuals with speech or hearing impairment may call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). Recovery specialists are available to assist with the registration process, provide counsel on assistance programs and also check on the status of an application.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
