Two Glynn Public Buildings Approved For Storm Shutters

Release Date: December 17, 2001
Release Number: R4-01-43

Atlanta, GA -- Glynn County's Public Safety Complex and Fire Station Number 8 soon will get protective aluminum roll-down shutters that are built to withstand 140 mph winds.

"Because of the nearness of the ocean-just 12 miles away-and the critical nature of emergency services provided from the structures, the shutters would give them the most protection available in the event of future hurricane strikes," said Kenneth O. Burris Jr., Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) region IV director.

The total project cost of $162,259 will pay for the shutters. FEMA is funding $121,695 of the sum.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) prioritized the wind retrofit projects in Brunswick and several other Georgia communities. The Brunswick facilities are among the first included in the program.

"This wind retrofit grant will play a vital role in helping Glynn County maintain critical operations capabilities during severe weather events," said GEMA Director Gary McConnell.
