PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The final opportunity to apply for temporary roof repair through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Operation Blue Roof program will occur on Friday, October 29, 2004. Right of Entry (ROE) forms may be filled out through the Friday deadline, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the following Disaster Recovery Centers:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will continue to place free plastic sheeting on roofs for those who have signed, by the deadline, an ROE form. The ROE allows Corps staff and agency contractors access to private property. A Corps contractor will perform the installation and Corps inspectors will inspect the work to ensure proper completion.

Operation Blue Roof for Hurricane Ivan in Florida has been mobilized since two days after Hurricane Ivan made landfall over the Panhandle. Approximately 40,000 ROEs have been collected and 25,000 repairs have been made. Corps contractors will continue to work until all ROE requests have been addressed. This assistance is provided free of charge. Anyone who requests payment for this assistance should be reported to local law enforcement.

The Operation Blue Roof Information Line is 850-444-2900. Calls are answered seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. People who need to cancel their request for assistance should also call the Information Line, as well as place a sign in their yard notifying contractors that the request has been cancelled.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
