ORLANDO, Fla. -- The centers taking applications for temporary roofing installations by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 2004. These centers are located in Brevard, Hendry, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Volusia counties.

Under this program, homeowners with hurricane-damaged roofs can have a plastic temporary roof installed FREE OF CHARGE by Corps contractors. Often called “Blue Roofs” due to the color of the plastic, this temporary roofing assistance is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) through the Corps of Engineers.

The temporary roofing application centers are open seven days a week. Their locations and hours of operation can be accessed at www.saj.usace.army.mil/blueroof_frances-jeanne.htm. You can also call the toll-free Corps customer service phone line at 1-866-264-8742 for a listing of the application centers.

As part of the application process, a homeowner must complete and sign a Right of Entry form to allow government and contractor employees on their property. The Corps will respond to every person who has applied for temporary roofing as rapidly as possible.

Temporary roofing is provided free of charge to homeowners.
