Sullivan And Delaware Disaster Recovery Centers To Remain Open Through Sunday, Oct. 24

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) and the New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) announced today that the Disaster Recovery Centers in Sullivan and Delaware counties will remain open through Sunday, Oct. 24.

The closing date for the centers has been extended to remain operational through Sunday to assist those who need disaster information or want to check on the status of their application and provide them the opportunity to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.

Center locations are listed below with hours:

Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After Sunday, Oct. 24, those who want to check on the status of their application, change application information or get further disaster assistance information can call FEMA’s toll-free Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 (choose option two). Lines are open from 6 a.m. to midnight (EST), seven days a week.

Those who have computers can visit FEMA’s helpful and informative Web site (www.fema.gov). The site features frequently asked questions regarding disaster assistance.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
