ALBANY, N.Y. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the New York Emergency Management Office (SEMO) and voluntary agencies continue to help New Yorkers recover from the recent severe storms and floods. More than $630,000 in disaster assistance has reached affected residents to meet their most basic disaster recovery needs.

As of today, nearly 1,000 people have applied for assistance and 84 percent of inspections have been completed. Inspectors have been responding on an average of four days to registered applicants.

Individuals can begin the disaster application process by calling the toll-free registration number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week until further notice. Individuals with Internet access now have the option to register on the agency’s Web site at www.fema.gov, where valuable recovery information is also available.

Four Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) remain open at the addresses below. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. After applying for assistance, applicants may visit any one of the DRCs and meet face-to-face with recovery specialists. Representatives of local, state, federal and voluntary agencies will be on hand to provide program and service information, technical assistance on ways to reduce damages from future disasters as well as information on flood insurance.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) staff will also be available at the center to assist victims with low-interest disaster loan applications.
