FEMA's Atlanta Operations Center Opened To Monitor Isidore And Lili

Atlanta, GA -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Region IV headquarters activated its regional operations center here at noon today to monitor the effects of Tropical Storms Isidore and Lili.

While FEMA staff has been observing the tropical weather systems all week, the decision was made to activate the center at noon today as Isidore approaches the Gulf coastline.

The center is the main coordination point between all federal agencies, and state emergency management agencies preparing for the storm. It will remain open as long as necessary.

Key federal agency staff is in the Atlanta center with FEMA, and others are on standby. Staff is currently coordinating with disaster officials in the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. A FEMA liaison team will arrive in Mississippi this afternoon, other teams are on alert for Alabama and Florida, and plans are in place to send emergency supplies if needed.
