Established in Fiscal Year 1998, the Region II Work Group on Women's Health is comprised of the 4 women's health designees from the states of New York and New Jersey, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Territory of the Virgin Islands. The Region II Women's Health Coordinator convenes the Work Group via monthly conference calls.
Each year, the Regional Women's Health Coordinator and Work Group on Women's Health establish a Regional Women's Health Agenda to address state and local concerns, identify model programs, and define key areas for national, regional, and statewide collaboration.
During Fiscal Year 2005, the Region II Women's Health Coordinator and Regional Work Group on Women's Health focused our efforts on
- World AIDS Day: Focus on Women, Girls and HIV/AIDS (December 2004)
- National Heart Disease Awareness Month (February 2005)
- National Women's Health Week (May 2005)
- HHS Region II Obesity Prevention Conference: Update on Public Health Strategies (September 2005).
In addition, the Region II Office on Women's Health established priorities for mini-grants for Fiscal Year 2005. The focus was on Women and: a) Heart Disease; b) Cancer; c) HIV/AIDS; and d) Minority Women's Health. A total of 12 mini-grants were awarded to community-based women's health programs in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. (full grants list).
