Mission statement:

The mission of the Division of Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases (DBMD) is to prevent illness, disability, and death caused by bacterial and Mycotic diseases in the United States and around the world. We accomplish our mission by conducting surveillance, epidemic investigations, epidemiologic and laboratory research, training, and public education programs to develop, evaluate, and promote prevention and control strategies for infectious bacterial and Mycotic diseases.
