Tobacco Prevention & Control
Researchers from 12 Prevention Research Centers are networking with state and community partners on a 3-year project to share expertise and research on tobacco control. The goal is to provide state health departments leading-edge strategies for controlling tobacco use among various populations. Colleagues collaborate with each other and with state and community researchers, advocates, and agencies. The network’s activities include enhancing surveillance and evaluation methods, distributing guidelines for youth smoking prevention programs, offering tobacco control courses at schools of public health, creating an electronic network to enhance communication among partners, and launching a Web site to provide information to a large audience of researchers, policy makers, and practitioners. Network members are also conducting collaborative research projects, exploring ways to interact most effectively with state and local health policy and practice communities, and expanding the tobacco research network to include other universities.
