NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Since hurricanes Gustav and Ike hit the State of Louisiana, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its federal partners have worked together helping those affected by the storms recover. So far, more than $300 million has been approved by FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for mission assignments, individual assistance, public assistance and SBA loans to hurricanes Gustav and Ike applicants. Here is an update on the services and assistance they have provided since the hurricanes struck, as of close of business Oct. 16.
Two hurricanes, Gustav and Ike, struck Louisiana in the month of September.
More than $94.6 million has funded mission assignments to other agencies for such things as blue roofs, generators and dead animal removal.
$34.1 million in Public Assistance funding has been obligated to state agencies for execution of the State's evacuation support plan, for emergency protective measures including search and rescue and other projects.
FEMA has disbursed $109,641,132 to individuals eligible for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Gustav.
FEMA has disbursed $21,647,666 to individuals eligible for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Ike.
A total of 244,867 home inspections have been issued for hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Of these, 223,779 homes damaged by these hurricanes have been inspected.
At this time, 17 Disaster Recovery Centers are open, and more are expected to open in the near future.
A total of 30,776 applicants have been seen at local Disaster Recovery Centers.
A total of $33.7 million in Other Needs Assistance has been disbursed to Gustav and Ike applicants.
The deadline for those displaced by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike to receive assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's transitional sheltering initiative has been extended. Applicants who have been deemed eligible for FEMA housing assistance under the Individuals and Households Program, or where FEMA has not yet been able to inspect their home damage have been extended until Tuesday, October 28. Transitional Sheltering Assistance has ended for those applicants who were deemed ineligible to receive further assistance.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved $40.5 million in loans to 1,290 Louisiana homeowners, renters, businesses and private, non-profit organizations due to damages from hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
The SBA is the primary source of federal funds for long-term disaster recovery for owners of private property, including homeowners, renters, non-farm businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations. These low-interest loans cover costs of repair or replacement of damaged real estate, personal property and business assets not fully covered by insurance or other aid, and for small businesses, such loans cover working capital needs caused by the disaster.
FEMA's community relations teams have met with 93,820 individuals face to face.
Upon completion of its Blue Roof mission on Oct. 6, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) collected 14,569 right of entry forms. Of the Blue Roof forms collected, the USACE installed approximately 10,525 Blue Roofs found eligible for the program.
All 64 parishes were declared for Public Assistance for Hurricane Gustav. 53 parishes were declared for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Gustav including: Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, Concordia, East Baton Rouge, East Carroll, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, LaSalle, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Orleans, Ouachita, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Richland, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Tensas, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, West Feliciana and Winn.

The parishes are Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Bienville, Calcasieu, Cameron, Concordia, Desoto, Iberia, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Red River, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion and Vernon.
