AUSTIN, Texas -- As the FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers at the County Precinct 2 Building in Shepherd and at the First National Bank in Livingston prepare to close, disaster recovery officials remind everyone that FEMA is always just a phone call or a mouse click away.

The centers are scheduled to complete operations at close of business, Friday, Oct. 31. Until then, they remain open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the County Precinct 2 Building, 1000 North Byrd Ave., Shepherd, TX 77371 and at the First National Bank, 1700 West Church St., Livingston, TX 77351.

"When local demand at a center drops, we close it or move to another location," said State Coordinating Officer Joan Haun. "But Texans need to know that disaster help is still available through FEMA’s 1-800-621-FEMA telephone number or any other disaster recovery center."

Residents can still apply or follow up on their applications by going online to www.fema.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing impaired. Both numbers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice.

"We urge applicants to follow through with their recovery process," said Federal Coordinating Officer Sandy Coachman. "While applying is the first step, you still should follow up on your application and continue to update your contact information," she said.

A listing of recovery centers is available at www.txdps.state.tx.us/dem/pages/dr1791_drc_list.htm.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
