The Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program allocates federal grant assistance for the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly owned facilities and the facilities of certain private nonprofit organizations. Because of the large number of PA projects in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, FEMA established the Alternative Arrangements to assist with the environmental policy documentation requirements. While all Alternative Arrangements projects are Public Assistance projects, not all Public Assistance projects are Alternative Arrangements projects. The difference between the two categories of projects is the level of environmental review needed to satisfy National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. In this section of the web site, Alternative Arrangements projects will be described with project details and a photograph, while Public Assistance projects will be displayed in table format.
The Projects Viewer provides mapping and information for FEMA Public Assistance and Alternative Arrangements projects. You can display maps and project summaries for seven parishes in Greater New Orleans. The Projects Viewer was specially developed to work on slower internet connections and be easy to use. You can select a certain parish or zip code and zoom directly to that area for a closer view at these FEMA-funded reconstruction projects and other activities.
