Join Literacy Volunteers of America, the American Library Association, the Department of Education, and VALUE in Kansas City October 4-7, 2000 for LVA Conference 2000: Show Me the Future!
Best-selling author Nora Roberts, a member of LVA's Authors' Guild and a longtime supporter of literacy, will be the opening keynote speaker.  Walter Anderson, Chairman, CEO, and Publisher of Parade Publications, will give the keynote address at the Annual Banquet and will present the 2000 Literacy Leadership Award to Assistant Secretary of Vocational and Adult Education Patricia W. McNeil.  Author, self-made millionaire, and adult learner Tom
Harken will emcee the Student Recognition Luncheon, and Wally Amos, LVA Inc.'s Spokesperson, will host our closing lunch.
This year's program includes the following featured speakers: Wally Amos, LVA National Spokesperson; Terry Axelrod, Raising More Money« Programs; Dr. Michael Bloom, Principal
Research Associate, The Conference Board of Canada; Judy Cheatham, LVA Writing Consultant, Greensboro College; Bill Cordes, author of Class It Up!; Margery Freeman, Executive Director, YMCA Educational Services (YES!) Fran Kick, Instruction and Design Concepts; Lester Laminack, LVA Reading Consultant, Western Carolina University; Pat Wagner, Co-owner, Pattern Research, Inc.; Marlene Wilson, author of The Effective Management of Volunteer Programs; and Elaine Yarbrough, The Yarbrough Group.
Workshop topics include technology for programs, tutors, and students; training program staff and trainers; learning disabilities; fundraising;
advocating for policy change; marketing and public relations; and more.
Pre-conference session topics include LVA's Training of Trainers; learning disabilities; student leadership; library and adult literacy programs; board development; and advocacy and public support.
