Rural/Frontier Women's Health Coordinating Centers: Bringing it all together to ensure better health care for women

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of Southern Nevada is affiliated with the University of Nevada School of Medicine. For the past 16 years, AHEC of Southern Nevada has served as a catalyst in engaging and mobilizing a wide range of agencies and organizations, acting as partners in planning for and addressing many of the state's critical health education, workforce and health-related needs. With a wide range of training and outreach programs, AHEC of Southern Nevada strives to serve and support the state's underserved populations and the health professionals who work with them. This RFCC housed at AHEC of Southern Nevada has an extensive service area, serving all rural/frontier communities throughout the entire state.

Key AHEC of Southern Nevada services and activities include:

  • Women's Issues program;
  • Breast and cervical cancer screenings;
  • Adolescent and Family Life programs;
  • School and community health education programs;
  • Nevada Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America;
  • Continuing education programs;
  • Public Health Preparedness; and
  • HIV/AIDS education.
