Renewable Energy Incentive Fact SheetsIn order to foster the reuse of cleanup sites for renewable energy production, State and Federal fact sheets are now available which describe incentives for renewable energy and contaminated land development. Federal Incentives, Delaware Incentives , Maryland Incentives , Pennsylvania Incentives , Virginia Incentives, and West Virginia Incentives.

Marjol Battery Site - Final Clean-up Construction - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) held an informational open house on April 8, 2008, to discuss the implementation of the final clean-up remedy at the Marjol Battery site, located in Throop, PA. Representatives of EPA, PADEP, and Gould Electronics, the property owner, were available to provide information on the project and to answer individual questions. An informational fact sheet has been posted for review.

Region 3 Improves Outreach Through E-mail - In an effort to enhance communication to our facilities, Region 3 is sending out periodic news updates to our RCRA Corrective Action site contacts through e-mail. These updates include information such as upcoming conferences, program goals, and new guidance and policy. If you would like to be included on Region 3's RCRA Corrective Action e-mail list, please contact Harriet Morrell at morrell.harriet@epa.gov with your name, e-mail address, and affiliation.

Comfort Letter for the Former Lucent Richmond Works Facility - The vision of RCRA redevelopment at the former Lucent Richmond Works facility on the eastern side of Richmond, Virginia, is becoming a reality. The RCRA redevelopment project, now known as "The Shops at White Oak Village," will include three major anchor stores, regional and local specialty retail set in a landscaped "lifestyle center" and several restaurants. To address questions regarding the cleanup activities completed at the former facility EPA has provided the developer with an official "comfort letter" which they can distribute to prospective store owners who may be considering business opportunities at the new shopping center.

Exide Investigation, Reading PA  - Exide is conducting a soil lead investigation in the  surrounding areas of the facility.  The investigation consists of soil sampling on each property to determine the average lead concentration. To learn more about the investigation, click on the following web links.

Former Elf Atochem North America Site - The cleanup at the Former Elf Atochem Facility in Cornwells Heights, Bensalem Township, PA has been completed. The five large on-site concrete buildings were all demolished. Additionally, the former wastewater treatment plant and railroad spurlines have been removed. All soils containing contaminants at concentrations greater than the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) Land Recycling Program's residential soil medium specific concentration (MSC) standards (approximately 45,000 tons) have been removed from the site and replaced with clean fill. Bensalem Redevelopment, L.P. (BRLP), the current site owner, submitted the Final Report for Site Remediation, which summarized the cleanup activities, to EPA in November 2007. EPA provided comments on the Final Report to BRLP in December 2007 and expects to receive a response to those comments shortly.

From 1917-1997 this 26-acre property situated along the Delaware River was the location for various industries, from shipbuilding to chemical production and blending. Vacant since 1997, BRLP plans to redevelop the site as a mixed-use area, including housing, office and retail space, restaurants, and greenspace. The redevelopment will create increased tax revenues and serve as a catalyst to bring other brownfield sites in the area back into productive reuse. EPA's Brownfields Program awarded the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority a $200,000 cleanup grant in May 2005 and a $1 million Brownfields loan in August 2005. The grant and loan were used to support the cleanup and will help to eliminate blight and reduce threats to human health and the environment. For more information about cleanup and redevelopment of this site, see the fact sheet.

Marjol Battery Site - On Thursday, July 13, EPA announced that Gould Electronics, Inc.has signed a consent order with EPA and the PA Department of the Environmental Protection to complete the cleanup of lead contamination and other chemicals from the Marjol Battey and Equipment Company site located in Throop, PA. The order requires Gould to design and construct a permanent cleanup remedy for the site.
