Monthly Immunization Table

To track progress toward achieving the goals of the Childhood Immunization Initiative (CII), CDC publishes monthly a tabular summary of the number of cases of all diseases preventable by routine childhood vaccination reported during the previous month and year-to-date (provisional data)(Table_1). In addition, the table compares provisional data with final data for the previous year and highlights the number of reported cases among children aged less than 5 years, who are the primary focus of CII. Data in the table are derived from CDC's National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System.

 * Data for 1993 are final and for 1994, provisional.
+ For 1993 and 1994, age data were available for 85% or more cases, except for 1994 age
data for pertussis, which were available for 76%.
& Invasive disease; H. influenzae serotype is not routinely reported to the National Notifiable
   Diseases Surveillance System.
@ Because most hepatitis B virus infections among infants and children aged <5 years are
asymptomatic (although likely to become chronic), acute disease surveillance does not
reflect the incidence of this problem in this age group or the effectiveness of hepatitis B vac-
   cination in infants.
** No cases of suspected poliomyelitis have been reported in 1994; three cases of suspected
poliomyelitis were reported in 1993. Four of the five suspected cases with onset in 1992
were confirmed; the confirmed cases were vaccine associated.
