QuickStats: Percentage of Persons Aged <65 Years Without
Health Insurance, by Age Group and Number of Uninsured Months ---
United States, 2003
 Among the 16.5% of persons aged <65 years who were without health insurance at the time of
the interview, approximately one fourth had never had health insurance, and an additional one fourth
had been without health insurance for >36 months. Being without health insurance for a lengthy period
is associated with less access to preventive health-care services and decreased continuity of care
for chronic conditions.
