Congressional Hispanic Conference Members in Support of Judge Samuel Alito

Washington D.C.- Members of the Congressional Hispanic Conference released the following statements today regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court:

"Today's nominee to the Supreme Court is an accomplished and outstanding jurist.  Judge Samuel Alito has earned widespread respect for his keen judicial intellect and for his respect of the law.  Judge Alito's qualifications and characteristics led to his unanimous confirmation vote by the Senate to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, where he is recognized for his fair-minded approach to all the cases before the court.  I urge the Senate to carry on with his confirmation hearings in a dignified and respectful manner." Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Chair (Fla.)

“Judge Samuel A. Alito’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court is an exceptional choice as he is without a doubt extremely qualified to serve on our nation’s highest court.  His nearly 30 years of public service in the legal profession, serving both as a litigator and as judge, in addition to his outstanding legal education make his credentials impeccable. I congratulate Judge Alito on his nomination.” Hon. Luis Fortuño, Vice-Chair (P.R.)

“I am extremely pleased that President Bush has nominated Judge Samuel Alito for the United States Supreme Court.  Judge Alito is exceptionally qualified to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. His brilliance and judicial temperament are complemented by a depth and breadth of experience unparalleled in recent history. I would urge the Senate to confirm him as promptly as possible.” Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (FL-21)

"Judge Alito is committed to the rule of law and is a judge that strictly interprets the law.  He was unanimously confirmed for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and has now served with distinction for fifteen years.  He has an excellent legal education and is widely praised for his fair-mindedness and even temperament." Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25)

“Samuel Alito has proven himself to be a principled, highly qualified jurist who faithfully adheres to and reveres the original intent of the Constitution.  This is a political grand slam and a principled move by the President that will bring grateful reverberations for generations to come." Rep. Trent Franks (Ariz.)
