14 Cosponsors for the Senate project to promote the Resolution on the Status of Puerto Rico

 
(Washington D.C.)- Resident Commissioner, Luis G. Fortuño, announced the endorsement by Senators Evan Bayh (D-IN) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), to bill S. 2661, which promotes a solution to the status problem in Puerto Rico and when it was introduced in the Senate by senator Mel Martinez on April 26, 2006.  With these new endorsements, it adds to 14 Senators that cosponsoring the bill.  The bill has the support of seven republicans and seven democrats, including Senator George Allen (R-VA), who was previously the governor of Virginia. 

 

By his part, the Resident Commissioner demonstrated to be pleased with the support that both bills have received from the House and the Senate.  “The support that the bill is receiving from prominent leaders from both political parties is indicative of the importance of finding a solution to the Puerto Rican status problem as a part of our democratic development within the Nation.”
