Governor Paterson Announces New York is Accepting Applications for New Doctors Across New York Program

Governor David A. Paterson today announced that New York State is now accepting applications for its Doctors Across New York program, a new education loan repayment and practice support program totaling $6.9 million in financial incentives for doctors to practice in designated physician shortage areas across New York. Governor Paterson is urging physicians, prospective medical school graduates, and other health care providers to apply in return for a commitment to practice in underserved rural and urban areas of New York State.

State Health Department Invites Community Groups, Local Agencies to Promote Awareness of Hudson River Fish Advisory

The New York State Department of Health is holding meetings to form partnerships with community groups and local agencies to encourage anglers and other fish consumers to follow the Department's Hudson River fish advisories. The next meetings are on Thursday, October 23, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Quality Inn, 90 Route 17K, Newburgh; and from 2-4 p.m. at the Poughkeepsie Galleria Community Room, 2001 South Road, Poughkeepsie.

Cap on Local Medicaid Costs Provides Million in Savings to Counties, New York City

New York State Budget Division Schedules Public Hearings for 2009-10 State Budget

The New York State Division of Budget will hold formal public hearings on the 2009-10 Budget, including agency and capital budgets, on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, in Room 124 of the State Capitol, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

State to Restrict Use of "Bug Bombs"

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis announced today that the state will be taking action to address the risks posed by total release foggers, also known as "bug bombs," in the wake of a new federal report detailing hazards and injuries related to the product.
