World Water Monitoring Day™ is an international education and outreach program that builds public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the world by engaging citizens to conduct basic monitoring of their local water bodies.

On October 13 at 9:00 am, the Cuba GSA (Global Sports Alliance) Team departed to the Guamá River, a great natural reservoir that goes around the westernmost head city of Cuba, Pinar del Río. This activity was organized by captain Lic. Fernando Emilio Valladares Fuente with the aim of monitoring the quality of water in the province. The team was eager to contribute to the international WWMD program and to the Ecoflag movement.

After deep analysis, the team found that the neutral pH of the Guamá River was conducive to supporting wildlife; however, the group stated that some measures would have to be taken not to accelerate pollution and rising water temperatures. The Guamá River flows to some damns around which many people live and fish. Read more or submit a story!
