Deputy Director, Student Achievement and School Accountability Programs

On July 7, 2008 Gregory T. Jackson, PMP was appointed Deputy Director of Student Achievement and School Accountability Programs Office in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education. The SASA programs office is responsible for the administration of over $15 billion annually in formula grants to promote improved achievement in schools that serve low-income children and to support English language proficiency of limited English proficient students.

As Deputy Director of SASA Gregory oversees the day-to-day management, coordination and administration of the Program Office. His responsibilities include but are not limited to solving office operational problems, ensuring the compliance with organizational policies, reaching compromises and mediating office conflicts between opposing values and perspectives.

Previously Gregory served as the Project Manager for the Development Systems Department at the American Red Cross (ARC). In this role he led the effort to modernize the ARC data collection, storage and sharing process between the National Headquarters and its 700+ Chapters. Prior to joining the ARC Gregory was the Program Manager for the Business Management and then the IT Service Delivery Divisions within the Office of the CIO for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In each division Gregory served as the Chief of Staff with responsibilities that included the preparation of briefings and high-level spending plans, staff supervision, project coordination, contract management, project management improvement support, and performance measurement support.

Immediately after college Gregory joined the United States Air Force. He was assigned to the Air Intelligence Agency as an Intelligence Analyst. While in the Air Force he worked at the National Security Agency in Maryland.

Gregory has a unique appreciation for the importance of Title I funding for impoverished schools and school districts because he attended grade schools that received Title I funding. He graduated from White Castle High School, a Title I School, in 1988. Gregory received his Bachelor Degree in 1993 from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA.
