One Week Left to Apply for Disaster Aid For McKean and Juniata County Residents

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Juniata or McKean County residents who suffered losses as a result of severe weather and flooding Aug. 20 and 21 have only one more week to apply for state and federal disaster aid. The deadline to apply is Nov. 1.
"We've had more than 900 applicants from these counties requesting help," said Jack Schuback, federal coordinating officer for the Pennsylvania disaster-recovery effort. "However, there may be people who need help and have not applied. We would like to reach every eligible disaster victim."
Schuback urged anyone who suffered damages or losses as a result of that flooding to begin the process by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029. Speech- and hearing-impaired applicants can call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY).
As of Friday, federal and state officials report more than $2.3 million has been disbursed to McKean and Juniata residents in the form of grants for housing assistance and other serious disaster-related needs, and as U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans for homeowners, renters and businesses.
"If you already have applied and have questions about your application, you can call the FEMA Helpline for information, even after the deadline has passed," Schuback said. The Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321. The number for speech- and hearing-impaired applicants is 1-800-462-7585 (TTY).
