I am pleased to announce that Dr. Maureen McCarthy has started in her new role as the Senior Advisor for Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Intelligence Programs, within the department’s Intelligence and Analysis Directorate.  This newly created and senior position reflects the department’s priority focus on high consequence threats and will directly report to Charlie Allen, the department’s Chief Intelligence Officer.

Maureen will be responsible for improving the department’s capability to acquire timely and actionable strategic intelligence in support of homeland security operations that counter WMD threats.  She will also be working closely with organizations both inside and outside the department to increase traditional and non-traditional intelligence collection and information exchange.

Maureen has served with distinction in the Science and Technology Directorate since the formation of the department.  I am grateful that she has accepted this important assignment.
