FEMA's Disaster Information Helpline Available to Residents Affected by Tropical Storm Floyd

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- A Disaster Information Helpline has been established for those who have been affected by Tropical Storm Floyd and need information about assistance programs or the status of their application for aid. The toll-free number is 1-800-525-0321. People with hearing or speech impairments may call the TTY Helpline at 1-800-462-7585.
Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management are encouraging anyone with questions about disaster assistance recovery programs to also call the Helpline.
"Disaster victims can learn about housing programs and grants by calling this number," Federal Coordinating Officer Peter Martinasco of FEMA said. "The Helpline will be able to inform applicants about the status of their application and will be able to refer them to other agencies or organizations if needed."
President Clinton signed a major disaster declaration for nine New Jersey counties making them eligible for federal disaster assistance. The declared counties are Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, and Union.
Renters, homeowners and business owners in the designated counties may apply for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585).
