BLM-Eastern States Web Site Reconnected

The Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States (BLM-ES) announced that its BLM-ES Web site is now back on line at www.es.blm.gov.  Customers are now able to easily search and gather information on BLM activities and programs in the East.

The BLM-ES has responsibility for about 30,000 acres of public lands and about 40 million acres of subsurface Federal mineral estate in the 31 States east of and bordering on the Mississippi River. Our major programs include:  energy and mineral resources, wildland fire, wild horse and burro adoption and compliance, natural resources, lands and realty, cadastral survey, and General Land Office (GLO) records automation.

“The BLM-ES Web site provides essential information to our public, American taxpayers, especially in the East. We work with a variety of groups such as Federal agencies, State and local governments, partners, and individuals to effectively manage our lands and resources, and keeping our Web site up to date and available is essential to accomplishing our important work,” said BLM-ES State Director, Mike Nedd.

The BLM recognizes the impact of this disconnection to its customers and thanks them for their patience and understanding during this period.  These past months have posed challenges, but making sure all constituents receive timely information about the agency’s actions has been a priority for the entire agency. The BLM sites were originally disconnected so that site security could be improved.

In December 2005, BLM-ES announced reconnection to the popular GLO Web site at www.glorecords.blm.gov. This site provides title companies, historians, genealogists, and other interested people the opportunity to obtain millions of historic, fascinating, and valuable land title records, East and West, dating back to the 1780s.  The Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Web site, another popular site at BLM, is also available at www.wildhorseandburro.blm.gov.  This Web site provides the public with information and procedures to adopt wild horses and burros.      BLM-Eastern States is a key source for the BLM’s National Wild Horse and Burro Adoption program, adopting about 2,000 animals to good homes each year.
