WICHITA, Kan. -- Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Kansans following the severe storms and tornadoes of May 3. The Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) update disaster-relief information and numbers daily from their Disaster Field Office in Wichita.
The information below summarizes ongoing response and recovery efforts for Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner counties.
- Since the disaster declaration on May 4, more than 2,000 tornado victims have registered for individual assistance through FEMA's toll-free registration line.
- There have been 861 applications for disaster housing assistance, and 450 have been approved thus far for a total of $514,017.
- The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved $3,958,000 for low-interest home and business loans.
- The Individual and Family Grant (IFG) Program administered by the State of Kansas has approved 200 grants amounting to $865,086. More than 550 applications have been transmitted to the IFG program for processing.
- Thirteen applications requesting Public Assistance have been accepted which include debris removal, emergency protective measures, road and bridge repair, and repair of public buildings. A total of $391,395 has been obligated for these and other projects.
