CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the West Virginia Office of Emergency Services announced today the addition of Logan County for Individuals and Households Assistance to the disaster declaration issued by President Bush on September 20 in the wake of Hurricane Ivan. Logan was declared on September 30 for Public Assistance aid to municipalities.

Logan becomes the 19th West Virginia county in which residents affected by Hurricane Ivan flooding are eligible for Individual Assistance (IA) and Other Needs Assistance (ONA) under FEMA's disaster relief program.

Residents eligible for IA and ONA have a wide range of programs available to them, such as funding for temporary disaster housing assistance, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans for individuals and business owners to repair or replace damaged property, grants for serious disaster-related needs and expenses not covered by insurance or other assistance programs.

Logan County residents affected by Hurricane Ivan should register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). This number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The speech or hearing-impaired may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Individuals with Internet access have the option to register on FEMA's website at http://www.fema.gov, where valuable recovery information is also available.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
