CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Flood mitigation outreach stations the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been staffing at two Ohio Valley home improvement centers will be changing locations this Monday and next Monday.

FEMA is at the home improvement centers in partnership with the state of West Virginia and the state of Ohio. The intent is to explain techniques that can lessen damage to homes, businesses and property from future flooding. Brochures are available on the National Flood Insurance Program and flood-avoidance techniques such as retrofitting.

The first two stations have been at an 84 Lumber center in Moundsville, W.Va., and a Lowes at St. Clairsville, Ohio. The Lowes station will remain open through Sunday, October 25. The Moundsville station will move on Monday, October 18, to the Busy Beaver Building Centers, Inc., at 303 Lafayette Ave., Moundsville.

The following Monday an outreach station will open at the 84 Lumber home center in New Martinsville, W.Va., 1390 Route 2 North.

FEMA mitigation representatives will be available at the home improvement centers from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to talk one-on-one about rebuilding and retrofitting to reduce flooding hazards.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
