(Washington, D.C) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program has approved a grant of $444,294 to Worth County R-III School District. In addition, ten other school districts will receive a part of the funding including: Jefferson C-123, Maryville R-II, Mound City R-II, Nodaway-Holt R-VII, North Nodaway R-VI, Northeast Nodaway R-V, Rock Port R-II , South Holt R-I, Tarkio R-I and West Nodaway R-I.
The funding will be used to provide, to each of the participating school districts, labs consisting of 24 state of the art laptops with accompanying software to interconnect the eleven school districts to one another and other distance learning sites. Teachers will receive professional development and students will work collaboratively in groups to discuss debate and share information via distance learning.
“This funding will help bring the world to northwest Missouri students,” said Graves. “I commend Worth County and all of these educators who are leading the way into the 21st century of education.”
The USDA Rural Development program has invested over $72 billion since January 2001 to provide equity and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure. As a result, over 1.5 million jobs have been created or saved through these investments.
