FY 2002 DRUG COURT GRANT PROGRAM

Juvenile Implementation Grant Award

Tennessee

AWARD RECIPIENT:

Blount County
Maryville, TN

AWARD AMOUNT:

$480,198*

PURPOSE: The Blount County Juvenile Drug Court Program (BCJDCP) will use grant funds to implement a drug court to treat nonviolent, substance-abusing, male and female juveniles ages 14 to 17. The drug court will serve approximately 180 clients in a 12-month minimum combination deferred prosecution and post-adjudication program over a 3-year period. Program services will include early, continuous, and intensive judicially-supervised treatment, mandatory drug testing, graduated sanctions, incentives, and other rehabilitative services such as education, primary health services, employment services, and aftercare. BCJDCP will reduce juvenile substance abuse and delinquency, provide greater access to services for juveniles and their families, increase self-esteem and school performance, strengthen families, and build alliances in the community. The drug court will use a management information system to collect and maintain data for operational and evaluation purposes. An independent evaluator will conduct process and outcome evaluations to gauge program effectiveness. BCJDCP will coordinate with state and local organizations such as the Good Samaritan Clinic, the Blount County School System, the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, Maryville College, and Blount County Recreation and Parks, and 3 local law enforcement agencies.
