The Shawnee National Forest welcomes visitors of all
abilities. We offer this guide for visitors with
special accessibility needs. We hope you will
find it useful in planning both daytime excursions
and overnight camping trips.
Accessibility to the Shawnee National Forest recreation
settings is increasing! Each year more barriers
to accessibility are being removed through reconstruction
or replacement of toilets, campsites, picnic areas
and trails. The Forest’s long-term accessibility
goal is to offer barrier free recreation opportunities
at most, if not all recreation areas and sites.
The America the Beautiful Access Passport: This entitles
the holder to a 50 percent discount on fees charged
for facilities and services such as camping, boat launching,
and parking at federal facilities.
This lifetime passport also provides free entrance
to national parks, monuments, and federal recreation
areas. When traveling by auto, the America the Beautiful Access
Passport covers entrance fees for the permittee and
all passengers. When entry is not by private
car, the passport admits the holder, their spouse,
children, and parents. Some private concessionaires
choose not to honor the America the Beautiful Access Passport.
There is no charge for the America the Beautiful Access Passport,
but you must be medically designated as either disabled
or blind to receive one. The passports are not
available by mail or phone, but can be obtained in
person at any Forest Service office.
