CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Disaster Recovery Center at Moundsville, Marshall County, will close Saturday evening, October 23. Located at the Delf-Norona Museum, 801 Jefferson Ave., the Moundsville Center began serving people affected by Hurricane Ivan flooding on September 29. Through Monday of this week, it had served 312 homeowners, tenants and businesspeople.

Four other Disaster Recovery Centers remain open in West Virginia’s northern Ohio Valley. Effective Monday, October 25, their hours will change to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (from 7 p.m.), Monday through Saturday. They are located at:

President Bush declared a major disaster in West Virginia on September 20 after Hurricane Ivan’s rains. A total of 22 counties have been eligible for various levels of disaster assistance.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
