As a consumer, I would really like to feel safe about the foods i'm eating. Lately i have heard disturbing news about the proliferation of food products that have been altered genetically without public notification. It seems the only research that has been done is by the people selling the product. Would you trust their objectivity? It appears the Food and Drug Administration is allowing the biotech companies to dictate policy, at the expense of using my mother, my brother and sister, all my neighbors and even myself as a global experiment. It is only fair to inform the American public of the presence of genetically engineered foods; consumers have a right to know, and i believe mandatory labeling will achieve that goal. I would also appreciate more independent research, since we are talking about the genetic alteration of what our body takes in, assimilates, and breaks down into energy. How does that affect us at a cellular level over a period of time? Cancer doesn't happen in a day, and literally changing the fiber of our being can't be dismissed without consideration for the long term effects. I implore you to be a conscious co-creator in our future. Genetically engineered products should be clearly labeled and more intense, independent and objective research should be done to make sure that our health and nutrition are protected.
