How to apply
Forest Service Candidates
A call for nominations goes out from the National office in May
through each Region. Supervisors should forward nominations to
the Regional Coordinator, following the Region's nomination process.
Forest Service candidates, after selection by the Regional
Office and confirmation by the Washington Office, should
complete an SF-182 and submit it either directly to the professor
in charge of the workshop (Host university or Institution is the
vendor) or to your Regional Coordinator. Follow your Regional
Coordinator's instructions. Some vendors accept credit cards.
Once confirmed, participants are
obligated to pay the tuition, fixed costs or find a substitute. Confirmation will occur in October via letter from the Regional Office. This applies whether
you register through your Regional Coordinator or through AgLearn.
If a confirmed participant needs to withdraw, he/she must immediately
contact his/her Regional Coordinator for assistance in finding
a substitute. Trying to withdraw from a workshop with only a few
weeks notice will be difficult and is NOT recommended. If a substitute
is not found then tuition will still have to be paid (a few rare
exceptions are made but this is at the vendor's discretion). Every
effort will be made to assist participants with their individual
needs. Expect to be actively involved in finding a substitute.
Self Funded: If you are self funded you can register directly
through AgLearn. Visit our 'Registering
In AgLearn' page for detailed instructions.
"Everyone Else" Candidates
Candidates from other agencies, States, Tribes, private industry,
International countries or the public interested in enrolling
can apply to us or directly
to the vendor of each workshop. You can apply at anytime.
Letters &
Forms
Just in case you didn't get a copy of the nomination letter and
registration form in the postal and electronic mail - we have
them all here. If you want to be on our annual mailing list (email
or postal) please let us know.
Forest Service folks, note that some Regions have application
forms that vary from the national registration form. Other Regions
simply use the national registration form. Please fill out an
appropriate form and send it to your Regional CE Coordinator with
a "cc" to the Natonal Program Leader.
Individuals not employed by the Forest Service should use the
"Fed-State-Tribe-Private"
form. Fill out the form and send it to the National Program Leader,
as indicated on the form.
Two form options are provided. One is "html" - meaning
it is formatted as a web page. This format allows you to "preview
& print" - click "print screen" on your browser
and get a hard copy. The other option is a downloadable "rtf"
format, allowing "editing & emailing". Once downloaded,
you can edit it electronically in your favorite word processing
software, and submit via email as an attachment.
If you can't find what you need, please contact either the National
WFW-CE program leader or your Regional Coordinator.
* Different from the national registration form.
Tuition
Tuition does not cover lodging, meals or transportation.
Limited tuition dollars are available through a few Regional offices
during the nomination process for Forest Service personnel. Responsibility
for payment of all costs (e.g., tuition and travel) rests solely
with the nominating unit, unless regional office tuition funding
is obtained. It is strongly recommended that when you are developing
your budget for "out years" (2009, 2010, etc.) be sure
to include funding for training. Individuals who qualify and have
planned training dollars are given priority ranking for workshop
slots.
Once confirmed, participants are
obligated to pay the tuition, fixed costs or find a substitute.
