Madagascar

The nearest operational SeaWiFS ground station to Madagascar is in Pretoria, South Africa. Consequently, there is not good coverage of the island at the higher (~1.1 kilometer) resolution. However, this image was composed to two separate scenes (one from the Pretoria station and one from the onboard data recorder) to produce a higher-resolution image.

The northern portion of the island was collected on 23 June 1999 and the southern portion was collected on 10 August 1998. The line of transition from one scene to the other is highlighted by a cloudbank that ends abruptly along a straight line over the eastern side of the island.
