Outreach and Training

Outreach efforts by FFRRO include the dissemination of information through the production of publications. In addition, FFRRO provides support for training courses to federal, state and local government staff tasked with implementing cleanup programs of federal facilities.

Partners In Progress
Partners in Progress is a publication by FFRRO that provides federal facility cleanup and reuse information to stakeholders. These issues contain extensive cleanup information, such as recent activities, policies, guidance and community activities. The Partners In Progress philosophy includes the following: stakeholders involved in federal facility cleanups are diverse, with differing backgrounds, interests and perspectives. All of these stakeholders, however, share a single common goal—progress. Partners In Progress provides an open forum for stakeholders to exchange information, offer solutions and share stories about what may and may not work. We encourage you—our readers—to write to us about your activities that foster teamwork, promote innovation and strengthen community involvement. Only by working together can we achieve “federal cleanups that put citizens first.”

Talking Stick for Partnering with Tribes
Talking Stick (PDF, 2 pages, 116KB) is FFRRO's publication that specifically addresses federal facility cleanup issues of interest to tribes. Read more about FFRRO's Tribal Program.

Superfund and Federal Facilities Community Involvement Toolkit is a comprehensive and practical tool for promoting successful community participation in the Superfund process. The Toolkit contains 47 tools, each of which describes activities that Superfund Site Teams have used successfully or provides information on available resources. The tools are listed in alphabetical order.

Federal Facilities Remediation Seminars for Remedial Project Managers
Federal Facility Remediation Seminar, a three-day interactive workshop, focuses on current and evolving issues that remedial project managers (RPMs) and other environmental professionals encounter during the post-Record of Decision (post-ROD) phase of environmental cleanups at federal facilities. By attending this seminar, participants will:

  • Learn methods of conducting successful long-term monitoring of remedies.
  • Examine alternative approaches to addressing changes that occur after the ROD.
  • Improve understanding of the legal requirements and roles and responsibilities of individuals involved with sites after the remedy selection and associated with the transfer of property by federal agencies.
  • Examine considerations and approaches with the implementation of institutional controls at sites, and discuss evolving policies and guidance regarding Military Munitions and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), lead-based paint and other topics.
