Missile Defense Consultations In Rome

QUESTION: Did Under Secretary Grossman meet with the Italian opposition?

ANSWER: While in Rome May 10, Under Secretary Grossman did not meet with members of the Italian opposition.

Under Secretary Grossman visited Rome to continue his productive consultations on missile defense. He briefed on our ongoing strategic review and current U.S. thinking on missile defense and solicited the views of Italian officials.

In the morning, Under Secretary Grossman had a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and the Prime Minister's office. He also attended a working lunch at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted by Secretary General Umberto Vattani. Under Secretary Grossman held a press conference in the afternoon before departing for Bratislava.
