Media Note (Revised) Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC August 16, 2004 Bio-Chem Redirect Program Sponsors Chemical Commercialization Conference Moscow, September 27-29, 2004The U.S. Department of State’s Bio-Chem Redirect Program, under the Bureau of Nonproliferation, is sponsoring the first Chemical Science and Commercialization Conference, to be held in Moscow on September 27-29, 2004 at the Renaissance Hotel, organized locally by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC). In the context of U.S. nonproliferation efforts in cooperation with governments in Russia and Eurasia, the goal of the conference is to introduce select chemical research and production institutes to potential Western industrial partners, investors and collaborators. Russian and Eurasian participants will include key institutes specializing in organic and inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry and catalysis, synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical production, toxicology testing, occupational risk assessment, and environmental testing.
During the conference, institutes will present an overview of their technical capabilities, collaborative interests and promising research to a Western audience, in fields including: drug discovery, development and toxicology testing; environmental remediation and monitoring technologies; and organic and inorganic synthesis. The conference will also address challenges to commercialization in Russia and Eurasia and successful strategies to overcome them.
