MORE INFORMATION on the End of Open Season

This is an Archive copy of a page which provided information on the end of Open Season during the last few weeks of Open Season.

Open Season still ends on December 31, 2002, but since applications can be requested or downloaded through December 31, LTC Partners will process any Open Season applications they receive in their offices by January 31, 2003 (note that this does not mean "postmarked by" January 31 -- it means "received by" January 31).

Please keep in mind that if you are an employee or the spouse of an employee, you can submit an open season application online ONLY through the end of Open Season -- December 31. If you won't be able to apply online by then, please make sure you download the abbreviated underwriting application, request one online, or order one by phone at 1-800-582-3337 before midnight Eastern time on December 31!

You can submit your open season application during January so that LTC Partners receives it by January 31. Your application does NOT have to be approved by December 31 nor do you have to arrange your billing options by December 31. LTC Partners will process your application using the Open Season rules (e.g., the July 1 "age freeze") as long as they receive your application by January 31. When your coverage is approved or when you elect billing options is irrelevant for purposes of processing your application as an open season application.

But you cannot request or download an open season application after December 31.

Here are more specific details about all of this:

IF you wish to apply during Open Season and take advantage of abbreviated underwriting (for employees, members of the uniformed services, and their spouses) and the July 1 "age freeze" (for all Open Season applicants), you must do one of the following by midnight, Eastern time, on December 31, 2002:

  • Request an application by calling 1-800-LTC-FEDS (1-800-582-3337) (TTY: 1-800-843-3557);

  • Download an application; OR

  • Apply online (the easiest and quickest way to apply for employees, members of the uniformed services, and their spouses)

Please note that:

  • The capability to submit an online Open Season application will end at midnight, December 31, 2002.

  • If LTC Partners receives a request for an Open Season kit with application after December 31, 2002, it will fulfill the request with a full underwriting application (even if the request was for an abbreviated underwriting application). Employees, members of the uniformed services, and their spouses -- don't miss your opportunity for abbreviated underwriting!

  • Current eligible individuals can still apply AFTER Open Season ends. But the advantages of abbreviated underwriting, the alternative insurance plan, and the July 1 "age freeze" end when Open Season ends.

  • New and newly eligible employees and members of the uniformed services, their spouses, and newly married spouses of employees and members of the uniformed services can apply with abbreviated underwriting and access to the alternative insurance plan within 60 days of becoming eligible for the Program, EVEN IF that is after Open Season ends.

  • LTC Partners will process any Open Season applications they receive in their offices on or before January 31, 2003. This is not a "postmarked by" date. This means they must actually receive the applications on or before January 31.
