FSIS Issues Notices
FSIS publishes notices to enhance the agency to carry out its mission of protecting public health. The following notices were recently issued:

Notice 73-07 - Additional Information Regarding Certain Boneless Beef Product Originating From Rancher's Beef Ltd., Canadian Establishment 630 (PDF Only). This notice outlines the current procedures that inspection personnel should use when handling beef products produced at Rancher's Beef Ltd., Canadian establishment 630.

Notice 74-07 - Inspection Program Personnel's Completion of the E. coli O157:H7 Checklist. This notice specifies that under no circumstances should inspection program personnel who have received the E. coli O157:H7 checklist (as referenced in FSIS Notice 65-07, PDF Only) request or allow an establishment to complete the checklist. Inspection program personnel should also review the establishment records relevant to responding to the checklist to enhance their familiarity with the establishment's operations and facilitate performance of their duties.

As stated in FSIS Notice 65-07, inspection program personnel should share a printed or electronic copy of the completed survey with establishment management, who will then have 48 hours to correct any responses for which they can substantiate changes.

Notice 76-07 - Importation of Canadian Cattle, Bison, Sheep and Goats into the United States (PDF Only). This notice provides updated information to inspection program personnel about the receipt, slaughter and inspection of cattle, bison, sheep and goats imported from Canada. This notice cancels FSIS Notice 14-07 and updates the instructions for inspection of these animals from FSIS Notice 14-07.

New IKE Scenario Available
FSIS has made available the preliminary Interactive Knowledge Exchange (IKE) scenario 09D-07, FSIS Verification of 9 CFR 416.2(d) Regarding Frozen Condensate in Product Freezers (Part II), for comment through Nov. 26.

This IKE scenario is the second in a series that will highlight the questions that inspection program personnel should ask when verifying compliance with 9 Code of Federal Regulations 416.2(d), Ventilation.

Register to Attend Outreach Seminar
FSIS will hold an outreach seminar on Dec. 5, the second in a six-part outreach series targeted to small and very small plants which will continue through April 16, 2008.

This seminar will review FSIS guidelines for generic E. coli testing for process control verification in cattle, swine and poultry establishments.

Sampling issues and how to achieve statistical process control procedures in small and very small plant establishments will also be discussed.

The seminar will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. EST and from 6 to 7 p.m. EST. To register by phone, call (800) 336-3747 or send an e-mail to OutreachTSC@fsis.usda.gov.

Food safety experts are available year-round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time to answer questions about safely preparing and cooking foods.
