PASSCAL Instrument Center at New Mexico Tech

The PASSCAL Instrument Center is located on the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro New Mexico. We are a National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored facility whose purpose is to provide state-of-the art equipment to do field research in seismology. The facility is comprised of full-time staff, part-time student workers and interns. The support we provide is in the form of seismic instrumentation, maintenance of equipment, software, data archiving, training and logistical field support for experiments.

Anyone can request to use PASSCAL equipment on a research experiment where the data will be freely available according to the Data Delivery Policy, which essentially states that the data will be available through the IRIS DMC two years after the completion of field work. Instruments can be requested online using the PASSCAL Instrument Request Forms.

Over the last several years the PASSCAL program has received significant support from the Department of Energy (DOE). Congress has appropriated the funds through DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration Nonproliferation and Verification research and development account. This has allowed for the purchase of a new 25 element telemetered broadband array and the replacement of the original PASSCAL dataloggers. During the last few years PASSCAL has significantly increased the support of DOE experiments.
