Central California Consortium

Since 2000, the Central California Consortium (CCC) has been reaching out to the Hmong community. An important position of the CCC Staff is the Asian Community Liaisons. This staff member works to link the USDA Forest Service to the growing Hmong Community in the San Joaquin Valley. CCC Asian component projects include translation, environmental education, and presentations on employment opportunities.

On a local level, the CCC works to outreach to the Hmong community by going on Hmong radio, attending job fairs, attending the Water Festival, supporting the Hmong Student Association at Fresno State with their Education Conference, and posting up stations at local Hmong stores to provide information on current FS rules and regulations.
On a national level, the CCC has participated in the Hmong National Development Conference (HND) since 2002. The CCC staff have served as workshop presenters at the HND Conferences providing methods and techniques to help Hmong professionals develop skills to allow them to be successful in the face of adversity.  Attendees learn how to be successful in the workplace without having to compromise their cultural identity. 

The CCC staff also coordinate a fire prevention/outreach booth at the Hmong International New Year to educate the Hmong people about fire awareness during fishing and hunting seasons and to inform the public about career opportunities that are available within the Forest Service.  Fire permits were also written out by the CCC staff and Fire prevention officers at the Hmong International New Year.

The CCC also encourages other Forest Service employees to help in outreach efforts and thus exposes them to the Hmong culture in hopes to build a better relationship and understanding between the agency and the Hmong community.
