OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management (KyEM) will open a one-day Disaster Recovery Center at the Calvary Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall) on Hwy. 641 in Crayne on Saturday (Jan. 22).

"The center, located in Crittenden County, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist recent storm and tornado victims who have already called to apply for disaster assistance," Greg Rushing, director of the county's Disaster and Emergency Services, said.

Representatives of state and federal agencies, including loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will be available to provide information, answer questions about the assistance programs, and discuss ways that applicants may be able to reduce future disaster damages.

"A variety of federal, state and voluntary agency programs are available for homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the disaster," Stan Nall, Webster County Emergency Management Agency Director, noted. "Now is the time to find out about these programs and begin the process of recovering from this terrible disaster."

Officials urge anyone who has suffered losses or damages as a result of the storms of January 3 - 4 to first register for assistance on FEMA's toll-free application line, and then visit the center to resolve any questions or receive help completing loan applications. Disaster assistance is non-taxable and specifically designed to cover "uninsured" and "underinsured" losses.

Parvin Gibbs, Hopkins County Disaster and Emergency Services Director, pointed out that applicants from other designated counties may also visit the Crayne location. "The center will give folks the chance to sit down and talk face-to-face with recovery specialists," he said.

The center is open to everyone. But to be eligible for state and federal disaster assistance, individuals and businesses must have suffered damages in one of the four designated disaster counties. Victims are urged to start the application process by calling toll-free, 1-800-462-9029. Those with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585 to apply.
