Miami, FL -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Florida have approved $1,236,521 in recovery assistance funding to help many of the more than 1,600 Broward County residents routed from their homes or trapped in them following early October's heavy rains.

The two-day downpour swamped many southern parts of the county, prompting a Presidential disaster declaration on October 4th that made county renters and homeowners eligible for a variety of state and federal programs designed to help people put their lives back together after a disaster.

A snapshot of Broward County assistance to date:

From October 11th through October 23rd, a Disaster Recovery Center operated in Hallandale to help applicants with program information. Disaster officials said that more than 100 Broward County applicants visited the Center. The officials explained that any registered applicant who wants to update information, track the status of an application, or ask about specific FEMA programs should call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321.

FEMA's toll-free recovery teleregistration number is still open for Broward County residents who suffered uninsured losses during the rains and floods. Call 1-800-462-9029 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments seeking to register or Helpline information should call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585
