Harlan Disaster Recovery Center To Close; Helpline Still Available

London, KY -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Village Center Mall in Harlan is scheduled to close on Saturday, May 11 at 6 p.m. Until then the center will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., to offer help to homeowners, renters and businesses in Kentucky who may be eligible for state and federal assistance under a presidential declaration.

"But people who have registered for assistance can still call the toll-free FEMA Helpline 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 to find out the status of their application, receive answers to their questions or find out about assistance programs," Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Bolch said.

"The Disaster Recovery Centers provide an opportunity to learn more about federal and state assistance programs and to check on the status of an application," said State Coordinating Officer Cash Centers. "Those who have not registered may still register for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing-or-speech impaired," he said.

Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for flood-damaged residential and business property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance and other special services are also available to eligible persons affected by the disaster
